Hundreds of entries will be validated for the search on the best teacher-student tandem that will use community mapping and information communication technology to tell the distinct story of their community via a video blog.
A project under the Smart Schools Program, “Doon Po Sa Amin” wraps up on August 30, 2011 as teacher-student teams did basic community mapping exercises to create video blogs that feature a community’s culture and character. The contest aimed at promoting information and communication technology (ICT) integration in basic education through curriculum-based topic categories while encouraging teachers and students to use local content in curriculum applications.
DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro said that it was a very exciting contest as it brings out the best in teachers and students in producing a video blog site that touches on the many aspects of community life. The topic categories include environment and disaster preparedness, arts and culture, history and society, as well as travel and cuisine.
“It surely helped develop our students’ skills in research, writing, creativity, teamwork and use of ICT in telling the unique stories of their respective communities,” he added.
The contest was joined by teachers and students from both public and private secondary schools nationwide. The winners will be invited to exhibit their entries during the “Doon Po Sa Amin” awarding ceremony on February 2012.
The grand champion will receive P30,000 while category winners will get P10,000 each. There will also be a special award of P5,000 each for best video blog site design and layout, best in team collaboration, best in ICT integration and best in community involvement.
